NGC253 is located in the constellation of Sculptor and is the brightest member of a small group of galaxies known as the
Sculptor Group.  Nearly 10 million LY from Earth, the Sculptor Group is considered the closest independent group of
galaxies to our own Local Group.  NGC 253 is active in star formation and has been dubbed by some the Starburst Galaxy.
