The California Nebula (NGC 1499) has a shape which strongly resembles the outline of the State of California.  It is
located in the constellation of Orion at a distance of 1,500 LY from the Earth and extends 100 LY on it's long axis.
A stellar nursery, NGC 1499 shines when the hot young stars within ionize the surrounding Hydrogen gas, causing
         it to emit light.
