Star Cluster M16 and it's associated nebula IC4703 are located in the constellation Serpens, 7000 LY from our Solar System.  Only 5 million years old, this young system is estimated to be 15 LY across.  Also known as the Eagle nebula, this huge cloud of gas and dust is a active birth place of new stars.  These young, energetic stars ionize the surrounding Hydrogen gas, which causes it to emit red light.
